I looked into the valley and the valley looked back
Nick Naudi

A year ago, in our kitchen, I looked up at my wife and drunkenly said, I think I’m trans. I had never said the words out loud. I didn’t know how else to unburden myself from the weight they carried in my head so I tumbled them out like rocks into her hands. She knew what to do with them as much as I did, and so they continued to tumble, awkwardly, clatteringly. Eventually, I cut my hair. I borrowed her clothes, her men’s clothes. And it felt good, it felt complete, it felt like coming home.

Note: this essay includes descriptions of bodily pain.

After a sharp, electric shock pain in my finger joint, I made up my mind to see a doctor. The swelling had started weeks ago, shifting from visibly puffy fingers to itchy redness around the joints. At first, I thought it was a bug bite or an allergic reaction. Pollen, food, something passing. Then one morning, I woke up with severely swollen fingers, the pressure squeezing my joints, pressing against my bones. The pain was piercing, like shards of glass lodged in joints or a ball of needles rolling around under my skin.

Staring blindly at the screen, scrolling through the fifth Family Guy x Subway Surfers TikTok in a row, there is a moment of overlap. Our subway surfer Jake almost appears to be running through the Peak District as the two videos and my interests collide. For a moment, I wonder if there is some kind of poetic potential within the TikTok machine.

	Yuka Hayashi’s home body:
Drawing delight and hope from not seeing forward
Sarah White

This conversation between Yuka and Sarah begins with the concept of “home body.” This term differs from the common idiom “homebody,” which generally refers to staying at home. Instead, “home body” here serves as a conceptual term with which to explore what it means to inhabit the body as one’s home, and acknowledge the present felt sense of the body.

Being a Soft-Spoken Girl: Between Reluctance and Acceptance
Rebecca Ricci

Naturally, a child with a soft and gentle voice, unable to retort, adults around me elevated this quality of being “good” and soft-spoken as an added virtue to my character. I found myself playing at friends’ houses, only to be used by their parents as a benchmark to educate them: “Don’t you see how kind she is? Why can’t you be like that?” If only they knew the mantra my mother would repeat to me before she said goodbye: “Always ask for permission, apologise, say please, and thank you – ALWAYS!” A repetitive chant, at times almost painful, which I took to heart and still hear echoing in my mind today.

Song Xin: Agency, Recursivity, and the Body's Soft Technology
Veronica Gisondi

To Song Xin, the soft boundaries of the body — both as subject and object of inquiry — are the primary interface that mediates and often heightens the productive tension that binds us to technology. Throughout her practice, Xin has been exploring ways bodies resist, rupture, and reconstruct themselves through their relationship with technical systems.

The performance features three dancers moving gently with their bodies as the music goes on, creating a state of calmness where actions are guided by intuition. Hand. Shoulder. Head. Spine. Knee. Feet.

	Miserable Miracle
A.X. Ledesma

Around 13 years ago, a friend of mine shared a bizarre video called ‘BongBong LRT Speech (w subtitles)’, featuring a man on the LRT reciting a largely continuous monologue in a mixture of English, Filipino, fragments of broken Spanish, and unintelligible gibberish. He is interrupted twice. The first pause seems to be prompted by a security guard asking him not to disturb the other passengers. His silence lasts for a few seconds before his rant continues. The second disruption takes on the form of a threat.
